Overview

catrc-thumbAll students of the Middlebury College Chinese School are required to take the Computer Adaptive Reading Proficiency Test (CARPT) before the end of the summer. Following the program, you will receive a report of your entrance and exit scores that will help you determine progress you made in reading while studying in the Chinese School.

The CARPT is a multiple choice computer-adaptive exam that assesses reading comprehension. The test will continue to give you questions of varying difficulty until it determines the level which best represents your ability.

Given the adaptive nature of this test, you may spend from 5 minutes to 3 hours, depending on your ability to read Chinese. There is no time limit on the test but you should plan to take this exam in one session. All questions can be displayed in either simplified or traditional characters. You are expected to take this exam without the aid of dictionaries, online translators, etc.

Please contact Alex Chapin, the test administrator, with any questions about this exam at: achapin1@uncc.edu.
