{"id":1475729,"date":"2008-12-09T21:59:21","date_gmt":"2008-12-09T21:59:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/segue.middlebury.edu\/view\/html\/node\/1475729"},"modified":"2012-08-06T20:32:52","modified_gmt":"2012-08-06T20:32:52","slug":"courses","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/segueproject.org\/curricular-technologies-report\/differentiation\/courses\/","title":{"rendered":"Courses"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Course Management<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"10\" height=\"176\" width=\"208\" vspace=\"10\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/segue.middlebury.edu\/repository\/viewfile\/polyphony-repository___repository_id\/edu.middlebury.segue.sites_repository\/polyphony-repository___asset_id\/1475785\/polyphony-repository___record_id\/1475786\/polyphony-repository___file_name\/midd-apps-courses01.png\" alt=\"\" \/>Like most course\/learning management systems (C\/LMS), Segue can be configured to show students and faculty a list of courses they are participating in and allow instructors to create sites for courses they are teaching.&nbsp; Most C\/LMS allow course sites to either be public or restrict access to those enrolled in or participating in the course.&nbsp; Since Segue has more granular access control than most C\/LMS (including Moodle, Sakai, and Blackboard), course instructors and\/or administrators can define role-based access control for any node in a course site (i.e. section, page or content block in the site).&nbsp; Thus some sections\/pages\/blocks may be public, others restricted to students, still others may be restricted to particular individuals who may be given the role of author or editor on the site.<\/p>\n<p>Most mature C\/LMS have a wide range of modules, plugins or tools that can be added to extend the system&#8217;s functionality.
