3:30-4:30 pm Thurs, May 11
Library 201
Middlebury College
This presentation will discuss technologies emerging on the internet are that challenge traditional forms of publication such as:
-Pulse, the book on systems and machines inspired by living things, that is also a blog with comments and tags…
-Google News, news on any topic aggregated from 4,500 news sources…
-Del.icio.us, the social bookmarking tool that lets you share and compare links…
-Really simple syndication (RSS), for continuously updated content and abstraction.
This presentation is accessible in a variety of formats including HTML, XML and mp3. Included on this page is an audio version of this presentation divided into chapters that correspond to the slides in this site. In addition, each slide includes an audio commentary that can be downloaded. The Syndication slide on this site includes a 15 minute audio commentary for download as well as excerpts from that commentary embedded in the slide for each of the 4 examples of syndication discussed (Google News, Digg, Newsvine and Pulse). This site can be accessed from a web browser as well as by means of RSS.
Alas, while this site make much use of images and audio, it is in much need of more textual commentary. I will work to add this later….
