He has been directing the development of a number of open source curricular systems including the <a title=\"Open Source Collaborative Learning System (CLS)\" href=\"..\/..\/..\/sites\/segue\">Segue<\/a> Collaborative Learning System; <a href=\"https:\/\/segue.middlebury.edu\/resolver\/segue1\/site\/concerto\" target=\"_blank\">Concerto<\/a>, a digital assets management system and <a title=\"PHP implementation of OKI open service interface definitions\" href=\"http:\/\/phpoki.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harmoni<\/a>, a service oriented framework for curricular applications based on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.okiproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Open Knowledge Initiative<\/a> (O.K.I) standards for systems interoperability. He has received a grant from the National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education (<a title=\"National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nitle.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">NITLE<\/a>) that supports some of this work.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Alex Chapin has a B.A. in psychology from Columbia University and an M.A. in History of Religions from the University of Virginia. He has a keen interest in Tibetan Buddhism, is a member of the Nalanda Translation Committee (which translates Tibetan texts), and is the multimedia designer of &#8220;Fluent Tibetan: The Vocabulary and Dialogues,&#8221; a CD-ROM for learning Tibetan.\u00a0 As well, he is the author of the upcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispeakphrasebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">iSpeak phrasebook<\/a> series.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alex Chapin is a curricular technologist at the Middlebury College CodeLab.
