It refers to a perceived or proposed second generation of Internet-based <a title=\"Web service\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Web_service\">services<\/a>\u2014such as <a title=\"Social networking sites\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_networking_sites\">social networking sites<\/a>, <a title=\"Wikis\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikis\">wikis<\/a>, communication tools, and <a title=\"Folksonomy\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Folksonomy\">folksonomies<\/a>\u2014that emphasize online collaboration and sharing among users. O&#8217;Reilly Media, in collaboration with MediaLive International, used the phrase as a title for a series of conferences, and since 2004 some members of certain technical and marketing communities have adopted and loosely adapted the phrase.
