IMS alt-i-lab Conference

July 7-10 – Alex Chapin and Gabriel Schine travelled to MIT to attend the IMS alt-i-lab 2003 Conference. The OKI project is specifying interfaces for developers to use in order to create standards for connecting to resources at institutions, such as user authentication, file and data storage and media libraries. Our hope is that attending this conference will give us greater insight into how to allow Segue and other Middlebury College tools to take advantage of OKI. Segue 2.0 is planned to be fully “compliant” with OKI interfaces.

Alex attended workshops on localizing standards and testing interoperability.  Gabe attended working sessions on interoperable digital repositories.  Both of us made good contacts with other conference participants included Carl Berger and Craig Counterman, and many of the OKI developers (Scott Thorne, Jeff Kahn and Peter Wilkins).  We arranged to work with them for a week in mid-August.
