{"id":710501,"date":"2009-08-11T11:17:45","date_gmt":"2009-08-11T16:17:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/segue.middlebury.edu\/view\/html\/node\/710501"},"modified":"2012-07-29T14:53:01","modified_gmt":"2012-07-29T14:53:01","slug":"course-sites","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/segueproject.org\/ttlr\/technologies\/course-sites\/","title":{"rendered":"Course Sites"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Untitled<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">There are a number of platforms available for creating course sites including Segue, WordPress and in some cases, MediaWiki.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small\">Segue currently is the platform most integrated with our course information and has options for controlling access to sites, as well as inviting others to contribute to sites.&nbsp; That said, we are planning to phase out Segue over the next year or so.&nbsp; For more information, see: <\/span><span style=\"font-size: small\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.middlebury.edu\/segue\" target=\"_blank\">Segue from Segue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>WordPress is a popular blogging application that many faculty have used for course sites.&nbsp; See below for more information.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Segue<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"10\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/segue.middlebury.edu\/repository\/viewfile\/polyphony-repository___repository_id\/edu.middlebury.segue.sites_repository\/polyphony-repository___asset_id\/1211528\/polyphony-repository___record_id\/1211529\/polyphony-repository___file_name\/segue_logo.gif\" alt=\"\" \/>Segue is sort of like a swiss army knife.&nbsp; It may be best described as a general purpose content management system.&nbsp; It can be used for course websites which can include blogs, wikis, podcasting, RSS aggregation, small image collections, online discussions as so on.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a serious blogger and you want to teach or learn about the current state of blogging, then you should consider using WordPress.&nbsp; In the same way if you want to&nbsp;teach or learn about the current state of wikis, MediaWiki may be a better choice.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Segue may be helpful in teaching the <em><strong>concepts<\/strong><\/em> of blogging and wikis since Segue abstracts these technologies into specific features and functionality&#8230;&nbsp; Segue is also useful for <em><strong>experimenting<\/strong><\/em> with these types of technologies since Segue allows you to restrict access to sites you create with it.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on creating a site with Segue, see: <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/segue.middlebury.edu\/view\/html\/site\/segue\/node\/657345\">Segue &gt; Step by Step Instructions &gt; Creating a Site<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Note: Segue will be phased out over the next year or so.&nbsp; That said, we will be offering migration tools to help move sites created in Segue to other platforms.
