Capture is the term used to describe the recording of sound or light waves into digital form or the conversion of analog media into digital format. Digital recording differs from analog recording in that digital recording can be duplicated without distortion.

The concept of capture can be applied to text as well. The ability to capture text was first made possible with the Guttenberg press and moveable type, enabling the efficient reproduction of the printed word.
