Segue & Sakai

Untitled

The Segue collaborative learning system (released July, 2003) is very similar to the Sakai collaboration and learning environment (released July 2004). Harmoni parallels the Sakai Tool Portability Profile and Polyphony will mirror the Web Services for Remote Portals (WSRP) specification, allowing Segue and its associated systems to function as portals, somewhat like what is envisioned with uPortal. Thus Segue developers plan to work closely with Sakai developers to ensure that our systems with interoperate with Sakai tools.

However Segue provides a unique set of features and functionality that, particularly for small liberal arts colleges, may make it a better choice than any of the Sakai applications as they are currently envisioned. In particular Segue’s customizable, hierarchical, granular design and structuring of content makes it an excellent general purpose content management system for courses and blogs, archives and exhibitions, collections and research.
